TBO Pathfinder Workshop with CAAM and AIR Lab in Kuala Lumpur

23 June 2026

On 15–16 June 2026, AIR Lab travelled to the Kuala Lumpur Air Traffic Control Centre in Sepang, Malaysia, to facilitate a TBO Pathfinder Workshop, aiming at accelerating the integration of the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) into Asia-Pacific TBO Pathfinder; an initiative of APAC ANSP Committee (ACC), launched in 2023.

The workshop brought together approximately 30 specialists across Malaysia’s aviation ecosystem: Area Control Centre controllers, Flight Planning and Airspace Management officers, operational staff from AirAsia, and infrastructure partners Telekom Malaysia and SiagaLab.

Invited as lead instructors, AIR Lab team members demonstrated key relevant features of the Regional Collaboration Platform (RCP), including the FF-ICE toolsets, KPIs, and Air Situation Display. The group further discussed the implementation of SWIM gateway in the context of TBO Pathfinder and defined use cases aimed at city-pair optimisations and implementation of User Preferred Routes across Asia.

Having both airline operators and ANSP personnel present was key for the FF‑ICE sessions, as the standard governs trajectory data exchange between airspace users and air navigation service providers requiring input from both sides to fully understand its implications.

The workshop was designed to give CAAM’s key operational and technical personnel direct exposure to FF-ICE concepts and the supporting technology, as part of Malaysia’s broader preparation for regional TBO implementation.

AIR Lab would like to thank CAAM for the invitation and for organizing this workshop with such a comprehensive and engaged group of participants.
